Signs It's Time to Repaint
Most people notice the trim first. A corner board starts peeling, then the window sills, then the south wall looks washed out. Once paint fails, water gets into the wood underneath, and that's when a paint job turns into a repair job.
Peeling or Cracking Paint
If paint is flaking off, it has lost its grip on the surface. We scrape it back, sand the edges, and spot-prime bare wood so the new coat actually sticks.
Faded or Chalky Siding
Rub your hand on the siding. If it comes away with a white or colored powder, the paint is worn out. It may still look okay from the street, but it isn't protecting much anymore.
Soft or Rotted Trim
Push on the trim near the bottom of a window or door. If it feels soft, paint won't fix it. We replace the bad boards first and then paint, so you aren't paying to cover up rot.
Colors That Feel Dated
Sometimes nothing is wrong with the paint. You're just tired of the color. A new body color with darker trim or a bold front door can change the whole look of a house.
WHAT WE PAINT
Exterior Painting Services
We paint and stain most of the outside of a house. Not sure what your siding is made of, or if it should be painted or stained? We'll take a look and tell you.
01
Siding, Trim and Doors
Wood siding, fiber cement, engineered wood, trim, fascia, soffits, garage doors, and front doors. Most of the work is in the prep. Once the surface is ready, the painting goes fast.
02
Staining for Decks and Cedar
Cedar siding, decks, fences, and porch floors usually look better stained than painted. We wash the wood, let it dry, and put on a solid or semi-transparent stain depending on how much grain you want to see.
03
LP SmartSide and James Hardie Repaints
Both come with a factory finish that holds up a long time, but it does fade. When you want it fresh again or want a new color, we clean the boards and repaint with an exterior paint that works on that siding.
Our Process

01
Look It Over
We walk around the house with you and look at the siding, the trim, and any soft spots. Then we talk about colors and when the job can start.
02
Prep
Power wash, scrape, sand, caulk, and prime. If a trim board is rotted, we swap it out here. This step decides how long the paint lasts.
03
Paint and Walk Through
We cover plants and windows, put on the finish coats, and clean up at the end of each day. When we're done, we walk the house with you and touch up anything you point out.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Homeowners Ask. We Answer.
Straight answers to the questions we get most. No runaround.
Does Lakeside Exteriors paint houses?
Yes. Lakeside Exteriors paints and stains house exteriors in the Twin Cities metro and the Brainerd Lakes area. That covers siding, trim, doors, decks, and fences.
When is the best time to paint a house in Minnesota?
Late spring through early fall. Paint needs a few dry days and mild nights to cure right, so the crew watches the forecast and moves days around when rain is coming.
Should cedar siding be painted or stained?
Either one works. Stain soaks in and lets the wood grain show. Paint sits on top and gives a solid, even color. Lakeside Exteriors shows homeowners both so they can pick what fits the house.
Can LP SmartSide or James Hardie siding be repainted?
Yes. Both can be repainted once the factory color fades or the homeowner wants a change. The crew cleans the boards first and uses an exterior paint that works on that siding.
How much does it cost to paint a house in Minnesota?
It depends on the size of the house, the type of siding, how much scraping and repair it needs, and how many colors go on. Lakeside Exteriors gives each homeowner a written estimate after looking at the house in person.
Does Lakeside Exteriors stain decks?
Yes. The crew washes, preps, and stains wood decks, railings, fences, and porches. If a few deck boards are bad, they can be swapped out before the stain goes on.
What about lead paint on older homes?
Homes built before 1978 may have lead paint. Lakeside Exteriors is EPA Lead-Safe Certified and follows lead-safe work rules when scraping or sanding older paint.

EXTERIOR PAINTING • TWIN CITIES & BRAINERD LAKES
Exterior House Painting and Staining in Minnesota
Paint doesn't last forever in Minnesota. Sun bakes the south side of the house, ice sits on the trim, and after enough winters the finish starts to let go. Lakeside Exteriors scrapes, primes, and repaints houses across the Twin Cities and the Brainerd Lakes area. We stain decks and cedar siding too.
